What is Noktura?

Noktura is an agricultural image hosting platform designed for researchers, agronomists, and farmers working on weed detection, crop health monitoring, and precision agriculture. It provides:

  • Secure cloud storage for agricultural images
  • Standardized AgContext metadata for consistent data annotation
  • Group sharing for team collaboration
  • Public dataset discovery for the research community
  • Integration with OpenWeedLocator (OWL) devices

Creating Your Account

Getting started with Noktura takes just a few steps.

1

Visit the sign up page and create an account using your Google account or email address. Google sign-in is recommended for faster access.

Free accounts include 5GB of storage. Need more? Upgrade your plan for additional storage and features.

Dashboard Overview

The dashboard is your home base in Noktura. Here's what you'll find:

My Datasets

View, manage, and upload your image datasets. Each dataset contains images with associated metadata like crop type, growth stage, and location.

Explore

Discover public datasets shared by other researchers. Use filters to find datasets by crop type, location, growth stage, and more.

Groups

Create and manage research groups to collaborate with colleagues. Share datasets privately within your group.

Downloads

Track the status of your dataset downloads. Large downloads are processed in the background and available for 48 hours.

Settings

Manage your profile, notification preferences, and subscription.

Your First Upload

Ready to upload your first dataset? Here's a quick overview of the process:

1

Create a new dataset

Click New Dataset in the sidebar to start. Give your dataset a descriptive name and optional description.

2

Add your images

Drag and drop your images into the upload zone, or click to browse. Noktura accepts JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and WebP files up to 50MB each.

3

Review extracted metadata

Noktura automatically extracts GPS coordinates, timestamps, and camera settings from your images. Review and correct any metadata as needed.

4

Add AgContext metadata

Enhance your dataset with standardized metadata: crop type, BBCH growth stage, soil conditions, and more. This makes your data more discoverable and useful for research.

5

Set visibility

Choose who can see your dataset: keep it private, share with specific groups, or make it public for the research community.

Note

For detailed upload instructions, see the Uploading Datasets guide.
